On Saturday I began to notice a trend in rising burglaries in North Coral Gables and blogged about it on Sunday (read that post here). By Tuesday, Gary Nelson, called and told me his Executive Producer (and fellow twitter friend of mine), Miguel Fernandez, had heard about the story from my blog and they wanted to report about it. Within hours, CBS4 was all over North Gables, had spoken to several victims and the police department.
The piece aired at 5:30 yesterday.

This is just a quick example of how citizen awareness, blogging and social media such as twitter and facebook, can help all of our residents stay in the know. If you know of something news worthy, tweet it out, contact your local news and let others know. Without each of us helping each other to stay informed, we will miss out on important things we should be aware of, such as burglaries in our own back yard.
